Administering our tests
Select applicants who will succeed on the course
Our predictive validity research, undertaken in collaboration with BMAT institutions, shows a positive relationship between BMAT scores and on-course success.
Fair to all applicants
BMAT assesses students in a fair and objective way, giving all applicants an equal chance to demonstrate their potential. We routinely monitor the test and course performance of different groups (by gender, educational background, etc.) to ensure that there is no bias.
To support inclusion, universities are recommended to consider a range of factors when assessing a student’s potential, and to not focus solely on school qualifications. BMAT measures potential needed for success in higher education.
Underpinned by research
Our dedicated research team ensures that BMAT conforms to the highest quality standards and makes a useful contribution to the university admissions process.
BMAT provides a common measure for comparing applicants with a wide range of qualifications. In addition, our global test centre network enables your applicants to take the test in their home country.
Who uses BMAT?
BMAT is already used by a number of universities around the world, including the University of Cambridge, the University of Leeds, Leiden University and University College London (UCL).
What’s in BMAT?
BMAT is a pen-and-paper test consisting of three sections.
BMAT can be delivered in one of two ways:
The cost model is tailored to your specific requirements – either charged to the institution direct, or passed on to test candidates.
The best way for test-takers to prepare for BMAT is to familiarise themselves with the test format and question style, by doing practice papers.
